Get ready for some snake like influence here at mamaroots.  2013 is the Year of the Snake in the Chinese Calendar and to help celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year I will have some fun snake influence on some story projects and crafts for home.

We made it to our local tree farm to pick out our tree for this year- it may not have been the skinny much loved specimen of a tree we found last year, but it is just the sweetest tree!  The one thing about getting a real tree is that it looks a little different each year and always just as beautiful.  

I did not expect my young photographers to grab the camera as much as they did, but it lt me be in the pictures a bit more than usual!  It was unseasonably warm, which felt a bit odd for getting the tree so we decided to top off the afternoon with hot Thai food!  I think we might have just started another family tradition!

Hope you have fun starting the holiday decorating season- I look forward to sharing ideas and corners of our home in the upcoming week.  Plus I am excited to do a special 12 days of giving for 12/12/12- stay tuned! Congrats to Mandy- the winner of the nutmeg Herbal Roots- be watching your e-mail!

It is time for the end of the month give-away our favorite zine Herbal Roots Zine!  For December Kristine has put together a great issue for Nutmeg.  I have always wanted to welcome in grating fresh nutmeg and I think now is the time.  One of the boys favorite before bed winter drinks is warm milk with a sprinkle of nutmeg!

How is your dragony weekend shaping up?  I pulled together some of our favorite dragon books and refreshed the book basket early this morning.  Here is an updated version of last year's list of dragon books I compiled to share with you.  On the second page I added some of this year's new titles that I liked and also some that are yet to come that look very promising!

Oui indeed- it has been a busy couple of weeks between 11 year old birthdays, festivals, soccer, and transitions into fall.  But we are settling back into a routine and plan to make up for my absence.  Colene did wonderfully on her first big festival.  Though I did not think it was possible for a second year of mud, it definitely made a difference sleeping in my sweet Scamp when the weather was a bit cool this year.  We are so thrilled to have her!

We are prepping for "Dragonmas" this weekend to welcome in fall all proper like, but how about a few give-aways to get back in the groove!  Let's start off with the monthly give-away for the Oct issue of Herbal Roots Zine- always a wonderful resource for families to help us all stay rooted with nature!

I am looking forward to learning more about oats.  One little treat I recently discovered at the store is BelVita breakfast biscuits.  I am probably just a sucker for the slick Nabisco advertising, but I went for it and the Golden Rolled Oats with a banana was delicious for the mornings I needed a quick breakfast option. They have a pretty simple list of ingredients and most seem to be pretty whole.
