Typing as the clock ticked past midnight which brings us into Sept- just that simple thing already is causing my body and soul to relax. Normally I don't mind you August, but this year it was time to say goodbye! Feeling like getting back to the normal routines and savoring a lovely long weekend.
Tonight was my monthly crafty gathering with my crafty mama friends. Whipped up some homemade salsa, grabbed a bag of chips and a bottle of Moscato and headed over to hang out and do some crafting and hanging out. That gave my fuel tank a fill up!
I have recently been doing some clean-out and purging and I came across this little unfinished quilt square that I rescued from Salvation Army. I had not even noticed unti I put it on the table at lunch time today that the signature on the quilt square was not finished. I could make out Ruby's last name written in pencil- Sweet.
This is what just fills me with wonder and love of the universe. Who made this, why did it not get finished, when was it made? The list goes on and on. In the meantime I start to imagine who Ruby was, then I bet you can guess what next . . . yep I google Ruby Sweet in the census records for my state and there I find a Ruby Sweet in Adair County Missouri- a northern county to these parts.
Was this her quilt square? What was she thinking when she stitched it? Does the timeframe match the fabric and the method of piecing? I may never know, but this simple quilt square went to my crafty gathering with me and I decided to finish it up for Ruby. It was a sweet gift to be with friends, completing another "crafty mama's project" and welcome in September.
Where ever you are Ruby- thanks, I hope you like the pillow this lovely quilt square is going to become. I will update you with picture of the finished project! Happy weekend my friends!
