So after my first knitting class a few light bulbs went off. I did what I could from books and videos for a year and it was funny how much a 2 hour class helped me over my hump. Of course some of my mistakes were in taking a dark striped 100% wool yarn. It was hard for me to see the pattern she was helping us learn. In my snooty "only natural fibers" place I caved and got a turquoise wool blend yarn that truth be told is a bit easier to learn on.
I also learned that I was casting on backwards, and K1 P2 may mean in the same row, not knit one row, purl one row. There are these little fancy rubber bands that make great pattern markers- genius! Oh and my big amateur moment was spelling purl, "pearl" in my notes- yep that was me!
So, that was on the weekend and I am now about 10 inches in something fabulous, I am just not sure what yet! Oh and just when I got a little over confident I had 2 yarn-overs in the same row. I blame in on the fact I was sitting in the car bundled up waiting for the boys after school and not in my zen knitting state of mind! And I was lacking a good cup of tea.
So I am knitting away this week with renewed vigor and confidence. Patterns you will be mine yet! Secretly I am hoping to knit something fabulous for my mama this year for her birthday. I have until April, that's enough time right?
