August has come and brought us some days of summer camp. A good chance for the boys summer routine wrap up to get ready for school to start again. As often is the case with our hybrid way of living we waited till the weekend to celebrate the beginning of harvest season- that is traditionally celebrated on Aug 1.
But that does not phase us too much, we broke out the grain mill this morning, ground some flour, made some very deliciouso bread smeared with some of the remaining of last years elderberry jelly. I can get use to the rhythms of making bread from scratch, and remember I am not the cook of our house. I like those little pockets of time in between rising bread to sneak in some reading, little chores, and the sweet anticipation of warm bread. We used this recipe and it was great.
I wanted to also a minute and make a quick list that you can print out for some of our wheat reading recomendations. See the download below.
Enjoy the beginning of harvest season, admittidly we are a bit worried here in the midwest, the draught is hitting us hard and we are hoping for rain for all soon!
