As I am sure many of you are thinking about the horrific events in Haiti, and likewise upon reading Soulemama's post yesterday it just makes you cling to those you love so much. My boys were all asleep last night and I was working and watching Dateline to try and get just a glimpse of the magnitude of this disaster. I was making toys, tears streaming down my cheeks and onto the toys, and I had to set them down and just go up and kiss my boys and crawl into bed exhausted.
I want to be able to do something and today am remembering the book Three Cups of Tea and how the author was able to start small in order to make change and that has given me hope for all of these people affected. Tonight I am gathering with my Crafty Mamas for our monthly craft gathering and I had decided a couple weeks ago we would do "Tea Crafting"- basically everyone would bring an ounce or two of their favorite herb we would combine them all for a crafty mama tea! Brew up a pot and then everyone would get to take some home also.
Tonight I am hoping to also have my friends help me with making some plans to raise funds to help with Haiti relief efforts. So far I have come up with making a wooden butterfly with 100% of the profits going towards the relief funds- who knows what else we will come up with tonight over a good cup of tea.
Be sure to watch for more info coming up on my Haiti project and to leave you with a quote from where the book Three Cups of Tea got its name:
It is symbolic of doing business in Pakistan and Afghanistan-
First cup you are a Stranger, Second cup you become a Friend,
with the Third cup you become Family
Here is to doing some tea crafting tonight and working to help our global family-
