I wanted to leave you this weekend with a fun fall fruit until I get the weekend pictures downloaded to share with you.  My absolute favorite goddess is Persephone and there is a great connection with the pomegranate that is now in season!  We enjoyed some on our pancakes last weekend!  Enjoy this wonderful fruit with a story this fall!  I could not resist making some wee pomegranates for fall nature tables!

Nightmares

Thanks everyone for such fun names for the Monster!  They are cracking us up! 

Silas has been having some nightmares lately, not the same as the night terrors, but the shaking closet door type of nightmares that sends him into mama and daddy's bed to snuggle!

I decided to do the next Once Upon a Table story project with this in mind!  I used some of the twigs we gathered from our weekend nature walk and we created a good "nightmare" that chases away the bad dreams!

I have done some more research and found some recycled printable binders and am finishing up the journals for the to carry forth the magic of these projects in your home with stories!

Monster Mondays!

We love October, we loove the fall and to celebrate we are doing a OOAK monster giveaway all month long.  Our first we saved for the locals at Jasper's school, but here is #2!  This fella is of the alien variety and yet to be named . . .leave a comment here between now and Saturday 10/10 at midnight and help name this fella.  Jasper will draw a name and this red-eyed fella will be on his way to you!

crow walkin and talkin

Yesterday Silas and I went on a little mama/son date in the woods.  I had brought a couple new books home for us to read of the fallish nature and we got to put one of them to  good use!  Lois Lowry just came out with a sweet new picture book based on a childhood memory of hers and it is called Crow Call. 

You know how I love my themes so I had my mind set on getting a crow call and going out on a fall walk to call some crows.  So you ask, where the heck to you get a crow call?  Well living in the Midwest there just so happens to be a Bass Pro Shop in my town.  I went there with the boys and was a little out of my element.  You can imagine what a site it was for a hippie and her 2 sons to be in the hunting section asking for a crow call!  But there we were with a crow call and old fashioned checkers game at the check out!

Silas and I headed out yesterday to an little nature area near our house called Grindstone, which we liked since it tied in with our wheat grinding lately!  We broke out the crow call and though we didn't get any crows to respond we got a few vultures!  We took in the warm autumn day and gathered some nature to take back to work on for the Once Upon a Table project for this month.  There are some more pictures here to see of our nature walk.

I recommend you check out this new book, and another funny book that is hard on the tongue to read out loud is Once Upon A Twice by Denise Doyen- I think there is even a contest for a dramatic reading!

little bit of sugar

Yesterday was the annual fall carnival at my eldest fella's school.  You know- the bean bag toss, the cotton candy, and oh yes the cake walk!  This year we decided to kick off our October monster giveaway by having our fist monster of the first week of October a little local style and we made a sugar loving monster to go with our cupcakes for our cake walk donation.  You can see by his eyes that he is a sugar lover and has dipped into the icing pot already!

My oldest goes to an Expressive Arts school that is nestled in downtown of my village and is a small sweet little school.  One of things besides the art that sold me on this school a couple years ago is the feeling inside.  It is very old and just touching the clay bricks insides takes me back to the ever so small rural school I grew up with.  

Don't fear- we are off on a nature "crow calling" walk and will be back later today for the first Monster Giveaway for you to have a chance at!  The first fella is of the alien variety!  Enjoy your Sunday!

The good ol' random.org number generator helped me this morning draw the winner for the Oct Issue of Herbal Roots Zine and it is . . . #1- Mikayla!  I will e-mail this to you this morning and enjoy.  We are gearing up to make our lemon drop leaves this weekend!
