In the midst of drying paint in Silas' room this weekend I headed out to do a little shopping for my baby sis' birthday present. Where to go- downtown, the mall, hmmm, mall it is, well the Antique Mall that is! Every once in while we get "new" presents for folks, but one of my favorite way to give presents if I am not making them is to go get something old- I like to think of it as a the green way of shopping, but really I am just in-love with stuff from days past!
I had seen this really neat old flour bag imprinted with a gal and wheat and while back and with my brain switched over into antique mode I pulled out the digital file in my brain of the layout of this particular Antique Mall, I felt like the terminator though not after Jon or Sarah Conner, but my prized antiques! I had the moment of exhiliration (will it be there still? is this the right booth?) when I zoned in on the bag- wait it was also the big sale weekend and I got it at 40% off- internal buzzers and lights going off now in my brain as it is in my safe hands!!- Mission accomplished!
Now I am shopping for me! So for my baby sis who was born on a hot hot July day when I was eight years old I found the awesome wheat bag (she has an affinity for wheat), a equally neat old salt bag, a wood pestle, and a vintage birthday postcard. She is a chef in NYC and I thought she would like a touch of some vintage Missouri for her kitchen. The postcards caught my eye as I was so inspired by my friend Garden Mama- you should read her post on postcards! It was so fun and I found this great card to send along, and a couple to send along to Garden Mama wink!!
For myself I found some old vintage giant bowls to use for trash cans in the boys rooms, and a few other fun treasures! Nothing like a day of shopping, you just have to know which "mall" to go to!
It was super rainy yesterday so I will try and take some pictures of Silas' fresh room and announce the winner of the holey rock giveaway tonight!
